Enhanced Technology Training in Radiological and Nuclear Material Alarm Response

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to visit the Oak Ridge Enhanced Technology and Training Center (ORETTC)—part of NNSA’s Y-12 National Security Complex—and learn about some of the latest radiological/nuclear response training methods and techniques being used in the newly-opened, state-of-the-art Emergency Response Training Facility (ERTF) on the ORETTC campus. The $15.1M facility enables the development of innovative approaches for emerging technological challenges and risk mitigation for critical infrastructure. ERTF provides local, state, national, and international organizations and government agencies with access to hands-on experience in high-consequence operations, emergency management, state-of-the-art technology, training evaluation and performance testing, and other advanced technical and tactical training areas.

Attendees will be split into three groups, and each group will alternate through three presentation/demonstration sessions throughout the afternoon. The sessions will include an ORETTC campus and programmatic overviews, augmented reality/virtual reality immersive technique demonstrations, and a virtual production training demonstration that combines ORETTC’s 9-by-45-ft LED wall with green screen technology for a realistic training experience.
