The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) invites you to the ninth event of the new monthly series DIALOGUES, on:

Football will Save the World

In the sportive spirit of the 21st World Cup Final, DIALOGUES take it outdoors, within the Great Lawn area of the Stavros Niarchos Park and with a focus on the king of Sports, football.

For what reasons and in which ways does football unite or divide us, why does it excite and thrill us or lead some of us to extremes? Football players and veterans along with coaches, sports reporters and experts try to uncover the various aspects and layers of football and the reasons behind the magic feeling it evokes into the hearts and minds of the fans around the world. Is football an international game which helps people escape from reality, a catalyst for different cultures and starting point for historical change or does it serve other interests and may even spark enmity within society? What are the chances that Sportsmanship can help people come together towards achieving a higher purpose?

Speakers in the panel discussion are the following:

Edmilson, World Cup Champion with the Brazilian National Team in 2002 and European Champion with FC Barcelona in 2006
Jordi Cardoner, First Vice-President, FC Barcelona
Andreas Dracopoulos, Co-President, Stavros Niarchos Foundation
Antonis Antoniadis, Veteran Football Player
Antonis Karpetopoulos, Sports Journalist
Alexander Kitroeff, Historian
Chrysa Kourobilia, Referee

The discussion will be moderated by journalist Anna-Kynthia Bousdoukou.

Before the panel discussion, from 18:00 to 19:30, the SNF and the Barça Foundation co-organize a sports event at the SNFCC for refugee children. The SNF is collaborating with the Barça Foundation for the implementation of sports and education programs in refugee sites and local hosting communities that follow the FutbolNet methodology. The specific methodology uses sports as a means to promote peace, tolerance and understanding and to ultimately foster social inclusion and integration, through education on values and reflection tools that stimulate children and young people. More than 3,000 children and teenagers are the beneficiaries of the program being implemented in Greece, Italy and Lebanon, with the SNF’s support. Through their participation in football games and training sessions, children learn how to cooperate with their peers, to respect the rules and how to use dialogue as a means to prevent and solve conflicts.
