TEDxWeldQuay - Artistry Within

In line with TED’s mission of Ideas Worth Spreading, TEDxWeldQuay aspires to be a catalyst; which aims to inspire, change and cultivate the minds of the Penang community and the world beyond. Being a platform, TEDxWeldQuay looks to undertake its mission by showcasing undiscovered treasures and talents from the local and international scene. At the same time, we hope to also showcase Penang, the Pearl of the Orient, to the rest of the world through TEDxWeldQuay.

Bihzhu - Songstress
2013 VIMA “Song of the Year” winner and Cabaret Song nominee for the USA-based 12th Independent Music Awards, the Penang-born songstress BIHZHU is blessed with a rich, soulful voice and a whole lot of heart. 

Cheeming, Boey- Malaysian Artist
Primarily known only as Boey, he is best recognized by his illustrations on foam coffee cups, his daily webcomic I Am Boey, and the autobiographical graphic novel When I Was A Kid & When I Was A Kid 2.

Simon Faure-Field - CEO, Equal Strategy
Simon Faure-Field, chief executive of the Equal Strategy consulting firm, has been nicknamed "the smell guy" for his efforts to incorporate scent to buildbrands.

Yung Shen - Founder, Swagger Salon
A design graduate who grew up making rap music and graffiti art as a teen, Shen is now a 26-year old former copywriter who sells t-shirts for a living, running The Swagger Salon — a clothing brand best known for its notorious LANSI caps.

Sam Coleman - Editor In Chief, Esquire Malaysia
A wandering troubadour of English language media, Sam has been an international editor across continents and countries, delving into lifestyle publications such as Expatriate Lifestyle and indie weeklies like Amsterdam Weekly or Budapest Week, as well as titles like Time Out KL and countless projects he'd appreciate not being reminded of.  

Gary Thompson - Co-Founder, CLOUD Inc
Gary's over twenty-five years of experience in business development and strategic leadership in both the public and private sectors with emerging growth and leading global technology companies creates a powerful palette for innovative thinking and endeavors. Rather than entrepreneur, Gary prefers to call himself a business artist.

Goh Choon Ean - Director & Curator, LUMA
Penang-based Choon Ean fills much of her time and mind dreaming up contemporary art installations and collaborations that would spur people on to live life fully and bring positive change to their communities.  Deep convictions, infused with an increasingly hodge-podged intrigue with the visual and verbal arts, led to the pioneering of the media department at DUMC (1998), the LiveWire! media network (2005) and the LUMA media arts centre (2012).

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

The event starts at 2.30pm to 6pm.

Snacks and Drinks with presenters and attendees is included in the ticket.
