What do SMEs and startups need to come out of this current crisis strong?

For the past few months all economies worldwide have been in the tight grip of an unprecedented pandemic crisis of a historic dimension that affects literally all realms of public and private life, that costs human life and vast amounts of money, that disrupts the economic, social and political order of the life as we have known it so far. With the uncertainty of how and when and at what final cost this crisis will come to an end society has to come to terms with the new situation and find ways how to best react to it. We all need to face the fact that there is not only an immediate short term threat to our health and lives but experts agree that also the expected economic fallout will be immense. The actual numbers and forecasts suggest that a large numbers of SMEs and start-ups worldwide will not survive this Covid-19 crisis. It is in our common interest and our common duty to attempt to make an appropriate analysis/evaluation of the likely consequences and to suggest and initiate the necessary actions to be taken.

Our foremost interest in this roundtable discussion is to analyze, comment and evaluate:

  1. the imminent risks for the Greek ecosystem with particular focus on SMEs and startups
  2. what economic and governmental assistance they need in order to survive this crisis
  3. the attempt of an outlook how they may remain viable after the crisis
