Where Innovation meets Transformation

An international meeting of Banking & ICT Experts: The BankTech2018 conference, which took place with great success on September 14th at Athens Marriott, organized by Mellon Group of Companies and Banker's Review Conferences of Boussias Communications with international speakers from the European Commission, HBA, Danske Bank, Edgar Dunn & Co., and experts from top ICT worldwide brands. The over 200 participants were senior and C-level Banking Executives from Greece, Cyprus, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, FYROM, Romania, Bulgaria and Poland. Critical subjects and cutting-edge technologies were addressed and developed regarding Digital Transformation in Banking while the Panel discussion on “How artificial intelligence is transforming the Banking Sector”, allowed the Chief Digital Officers of Greek Banks to analyze different approaches and relevant strategies.

Ralf Jacob

Head of Unit D3 of DG Financial Stability, EC

Ralf Jacob is the Head of Unit D3 (Retail Financial Services and Payments), European Commission, Directorate General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union. His unit is in charge of legislation on payments (payment services, e-money directives, SEPA regulation) and consumer finance (mortgage credit and payment accounts directive) and coordinates the implementation of the Commission's action plan on consumer financial services. Ralf joined the European Commission in 1989 after having studied economics and politics in Hamburg, Paris and London.

Nelly Tzakou-Lambropoulou was appointed General Manager of Retail Banking at National Bank of Greece in July 2013. She is responsible for Retail Banking, the Branch Network and e-Business & Electronic Channels of the Bank. She is a Member of the Executive Committee of NBG. Since December 2012, she held the position of General Manager, Group Head of Operations, Business Processes & IT at the Bank. She joined NBG in July 2007 as General Manager, Group Head of Operations & Global Transaction Services. She is Chairman of the BoD at National Securities S.A and at NBG Insurance Broker S.A.; B’ Vice-Chairman of the BoD at Ethniki Hellenic General Insurance S.A, Vice-Chairman of the BoD at DIAS S.A. Michael Hoffmann

Senior Manager, Group Business Development, Infrastructures & Sector Collaboration, Danske Bank

Michael Hoffmann (Danske Bank) has a long history within the financial sector, working in Banking, Insurance and Mortgage-companies (Domestic and Int’l). Over the last +10 years focusing on Payment Cards and Financial Market Infrastructures and Collaboration. He has been representing both Danske Bank and the Danish Banking Sector (via Finance Denmark, the Danish Bankers association) in a variation of forums, where he coordinates activities related primarily to payment cards. At present Michael, hold positions in European Payment Council (EPC) ‘Cards Working Group’ and ‘Mobile Payments Working Group’ – and is an active member of a number of EPC Expert Teams, focusing on Implementation Guidelines for achieving the SEPA goals and objectives for Payment Cards – the replacement of “The Book of Requirements”. In Denmark Michael is chairing the ‘Association of Card Issuers in Denmark’, focusing on the transformation of the former domestic Visa Association for card issuing in Denmark – after Visa Inc. taking over the Visa Europe.

Martin Koderisch is a Payments Consultant with Edgar, Dunn and Company based in London. Michał Łaszczyk

Michał Łaszczyk is responsible in the Ingenico Group for marketing activities in Eastern Europe to which he brings an expertise from a rapidly changing IT industry. He started the career in a technical role in Advanced Micro Devices in the United Kingdom before transitioning to Dell where he worked in various sales and marketing roles. Before joining Ingenico he was working with Microsoft in transitioning their customers to the cloud. Michał Łaszczyk holds an MA in Management from Warsaw University.

Damianos Charalampidis

Executive General Manager, Alpha Bank

Damianos Charalampidis was appointed Group Chief Digital Officer and Head of Retail Banking Products at Alpha Bank in November 2016. He is a member of the General Council of the bank and a BoD Member of Alpha Ventures. He has more than 20 years of experience in the field of Financial Services and Telecommunications and particularly in the area of Commercial Operations, serving as a c-level Executive at all 3 mobile operators in Greece. More specifically, from 2012 to 2016 he was Group Chief Operating Officer at National Bank of Greece. Before that and from 2009 until 2012 he was the Chief Operating Officer at Vodafone Greece. From 2005 – 2009 he joined WIND Hellas as Chief Commercial Officer, while later he assumed the responsibilities of the Chief Operating Officer. From 1998 until 2005 he worked at Cosmote as a Product and Services Manager and then he assumed the General Management of the sector. Throughout his career Mr. Charalampidis served as a BoD member in various companies such as: OTENET (ISP Provider), TELLAS S.A. (Fixed Line Operator), ZELITRON (IoT Internet of Things), Ethnodata (IT service provider), CosmoONE (B2B e-Auction service provider). He is also a member of IET (Institute of Electrical and Technical Engineers) and he has served as a chairman of its Greek section for several years. He holds a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from John Moores University in Liverpool as well as an MSc in Digital Electronics from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).


Kostis Chlouverakis

Group Chief Digital Officer, Eurobank

Kostis Chlouverakis has worked in academia and analytics consulting both in Greece and the United States. He holds an MBA from Sloan MIT, a PhD in Electronic Systems Engineering and a degree in Physics. Kostis has actively participated in global (Fortune 500) digital and analytics projects, managing international teams. His main interests and expertise focus on digital strategy, machine learning, and how companies can exploit and monetize their internal and external data and expand and hone their digital capabilities.


Nikos Christodoulou

Nikos Christodoulou, General Manager, Group COO, Member of the Executive Committee, National Bank of Greece Nikos Christodoulou is General Manager, Chief of Operations, at National Bank of Greece since September 2016. In September 2013 he appointed General Manager, Group Chief Information Officer, at National Bank of Greece. He joined NBG in November 2011 as Assistant General Manager, Group CIO. Prior to that, he was Partner at Accenture, the global consulting and technology firm, where he was heading the Management Consulting Unit in Greece. He was also heading the Financial Services Unit in Greece. During the 15 years of his consulting experience he has worked for many of the largest Financial Institutions in Greece and Eastern Europe, advising on large scale transformation programs, defining IT Strategies, conducting feasibility studies for technology investments, designing new operating and organisation models. Since June 2013, he is Chairman of the Hellenic Institute Information and Communication Management of the Hellenic Management Association (HICM-HMA). He has served as member of the Board of ICAP S.A. and member of the Advisory Committee of Attica Ventures. He has been Chairman of the Greek Information Society Observatory for 4 years and Chairman of the Digital Aid S.A. for 2 years. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from National Technical University of Athens, an MBA from Warwick Business School, UK and a PhD in Decision Systems from National Technical University of Athens. Ηe has also worked as a Research Associate at INSEAD and at the National Technical University of Athens.


Sotiris Syrmakezis

Chief Retail, Digital & Technology Officer, Praxia Bank

Sotiris Syrmakezis is Chief Retail, Digital & Technology Officer at Praxia Bank, an entity that will soon launch the first challenger bank in Greece focusing on digital banking and SMEs. Prior to Praxia Bank, Sotiris worked for 2,5 years (July ’15-Jan ’18) at Eurobank Ergasias SA, as General Manager, Group Chief Digital & Technology Officer (Group CDTO), reporting to the Deputy CEO, while for 15 years worked at Piraeus Bank Group, as General Manager of Retail Banking (2012-2015), Deputy General Manager of Electronic Business (2008-2012) and Electronic Banking Director (winbank) (2000-2008). Sotiris holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Crete.

Dr Dimitris Vlitas

Visiting Professor, University of Toronto

Graduating from University of Toronto Math specialist program, he gained the Marie Curie fellowship to complete, in two years time, his PhD in Mathematics and Foundations on Computer science in Paris 7. Since then he has been publishing in very top academic journals, holding research positions in Cornell University, Fields Institute and University of Toronto. Fields Medal has been described as the "Nobel Prize" for Mathematics. University of Toronto is often credited with the AI revolution of 2010's. Recently he has been helping National Bank of Greece to internalize Machine Learning in its structure and decision making.
