At a time when U.S. - Greek relations are at an all-time high and as The American College of Greece celebrates 100 years of impact in Greece, ACG and the Consulate General invite you to a discussion on the role of education as a force for growth and U.S.-Greece ties. 

 

The event features conversation, networking and wine-tasting with welcome remarks by the Consul General of Greece and an introduction to The American College of Greece by President David G. Horner


Education as a Force for Growth is cohosted by The Consulate General of Greece in New York and The American College of Greece. The Consulate General is an arm of the Embassy of Greece in Washington, D.C. The American College of Greece is the oldest and largest independent, nonprofit American educational institution in Europe

At a time when U.S. Greek relations are at an all-time high and as ACG celebrates 100 years of impact in Greece, ACG and the Consulate General cohost a discussion on the role of education as a force for growth and U.S.-Greece ties. The event features conversation, networking and wine-tasting, with a presentation highlighting ACG’s long-standing role as an education pioneer in Greece, strong ties with the U.S. business and education communities, top-quality education and research programs, and vision for the future.

Speakers 

Consul General Dinos Konstantinou  

Consul General Dinos Konstantinou was born in Athens in 1972. Member of the Hellenic Diplomatic Service since 1999, he assumed his duties as Consul General of Greece in New York in August 2022. From 2000 to 2002, he served at the Political Department Directorate for European Countries in the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2002 to 2006 he was a member of the Embassy of Greece in Washington D.C., serving both at the political and consular sections.

From 2006-2008, he had the honor to serve in the Diplomatic Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Karamanlis. From 2008 to 2012, he was appointed political Counselor and Consul at the Embassy of Greece in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From 2012 to 2014 he served at the Political Department for Cyprus, dealing with all aspects of this top priority issue for Greece. From 2014 to 2018 he served as the Consul General of Greece in São Paulo, the only Greek General Consulate in Brazil. Back to Athens in 2018, he had a vast portfolio at the Political Department for Arab Countries and the Middle East, comprising among others Syria, Iraq and Iran. From 2019 until August 2022, he served as the Diplomatic Advisor to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Greece, Mr. Kostas Karamanlis.

Consul General Konstantinou graduated from the Moraitis School in 1990 and studied Private International Law at Paris II Panthéon-Assas University of Sorbonne. He speaks fluently English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Consul General Konstantinou has been a dedicated runner and has participated in 17 Marathons including the 2013 Boston Marathon, while he is also a former Youth Champion in Tennis (1983-1985).

President David G. Horner  

Since becoming president in 2008, David Horner has provided transformative leadership to The American College of Greece resulting in: 

  • 71% increase in total enrollment
  • 800% increase in financial aid
  • In-bound and “out-bound” study abroad programs serving 1,000 students annually. Ov 
  • Over 1,100 Greek public university students studying annually in “parallel” at Deree
  • Over 3,000 students and business professionals enrolled annually in Alba graduate business and Executive Education programs
  • Over 1,300 children enrolled in Deree Sports Academies and Summer Camp 
  • Over 56,000 children educated through the Behrakis Foundation Youth Anti-Smoking Initiative
  • 1,100 Greek public university students studying annually in “parallel” at Deree 
  • Over 3,000 students and business professionals enrolled annually in Alba graduate business and Executive Education programs. 
  • Over 56,000 children educated through the Behrakis Foundation Youth Anti-Smoking Initiative. 

      Previously, Dr. Horner served as president of North Park University (Chicago) from 1987-2204 and Barrington College, his alma mater, from 1979-1985. At the time of his Barrington appointment, he was the youngest (age 29) college or university president in the U.S. and led the college to its successful merger with Gorden College (MA). During his North Park presidency, enrollment tripled, major capital projects were completed, and the endowment grew six-fold. 

       

      President Horner received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, summa cum laude, from Barrington College; a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Rhode Island; and an MBA and PhD in higher education administration and policy analysis from Stanford University. Together with his late spouse, S. Sue Horner, he has two grown children and four grandchildren.
