World Health Innovation Summit and Carlisle Eden Mind present WHISMind Talks

Our next topic is: Men's Mental Health

Join us to hear inspirational men from our community tell their stories of maintaining physical and mental balance, challenging stigma, unexpected opportunities, and strategies for coping with what life throws at you.

Speakers include (amongst others):

John Moore

John was in the Marines and made the transition back to 'Civvy Street' successfully but not without some set-backs: various family issues really challenged his ability to look after himself while supporting others, he stopped taking care of himself physically, had relationship issues, and other challenges. He wants to share his story of the unexpected opportunity that continued to present itself which he finally took and has never looked back!

Sam Tyrer

Sam is the founder of new initiative called Change Talks. This aims to change the way we think about mental health, raising awareness and beating the stigma. Alongside this he is also a Doctoral student of Health at the University Of Central Lancashire and a qualified staff nurse with 1st class honours degree.

Eddie Cunningham

Eddie has experienced mental health issues since he was 15 years old, including two attempts at taking his own life. Throughout his 20's and 30's he has seen numerous counsellors where he is from in Lancashire, and in Cumbria since moving here. He struggled with becoming a father and living away from a family network of support after moving to Cumbria and still does. He wants to share how he looks at his mental health and wellbeing as part of daily life; has started to put measures in place to keep on top of this daily battle to live a “normal” life and be a good father to his daughter.
