The SNFCC Members’ Film Club, in collaboration with Cinobo, is wrapping up its meetings for 2022, this time featuring not only the usual discussion, but also the screening of a classic film with a festive undertone.

December Film: Les Parapluies de Cherbourg [The Umbrellas of Cherbourg] (1964)

Summary: A young woman lives with her widowed mother, owner of an umbrella shop in Cherbourg. The young woman is in love with a 20-year-old auto mechanic and the two are secretly planning to get married. When she tells her mother, the latter forbids it. When the young man decides to join the army and leaves for Algeria, the girl discovers that she is pregnant. At the exhortation of her mother, she is forced to accept a proposal to marry a gemstone trader.

Palme d’Or at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival, for an unprecedented moment in film history, a technicolor musical featuring the wonderful melodies of Michel Legrand, magical like cinema itself, bittersweet like life itself.
