The start of the new season finds us in the company of Cinobo's team of curators in a dialogue exclusively with Members, which starts with the presentation - this time two films - goes beyond the limits of a "lesson" and expands into an exciting cinematic chat. Cinema lovers meet at the SNFCC to discuss, share thoughts and exchange opinions, starting with the films of the month.

In September, as we are inspired by the theme of reuse, we look at how the concept is incorporated into the art of cinema through remakes and strong references to films that are considered classics. We are talking about two very recognizable films – milestones in the art of cinema, where the second can be considered almost a remake of the first from another perspective of both the Eternal City and the concept of "appearance" while equally signaling the bittersweet message of the end of a celebration.

September Movies: La Dolce Vita (1960) and La Grande Belezza (2013)

Sweet life

Nothing would remain the same in European cinema after the first showing of one of the most influential, as it turned out, films in the history of the medium. The week of Marcello, Paparazzo, stars, ephemeral glitter and false idols, a journey towards the true meaning of life.

Synopsis: Wandering through a privileged enclave of Rome, Marcello, a gossip reporter, encounters elegant aristocrats, starving artists, vulgar nouveau riche, gossies and "magicians" of the secular night. He discovers that beneath the skin of their illusory grace, lurks emptiness, despair and loneliness, all of which lead his uncompromising thinker friend to a tragic end.

Festival Gem: Golden Palm | Cannes Film Festival 1960, Best Costume Design Oscar | Academy Awards 1962

The Perfect Beauty

Paolo Sorrentino deservedly won the foreign language Oscar for this feline anthem in the Eternal City, a cinematic dinosion that hides behind its beautiful images the sadness and emptiness of existence and turns the pain into a wild party that fully lives up to its title.

Summary: Rome, summer. Tourists flock to Janos Hill. An irresistible man, despite the first signs of old age, enjoys the social life of the city. He attends dinners and parties, where his bright spirit is always welcome, and camouflages his discomfort with cynicism. Gois, a successful journalist, wrote a novel as a young man that earned him an award and a reputation as a repressed artist. On the roof of his apartment, overlooking the Colosseum, he organizes a party where "The Human System" - the title of his novel - is stripped down, while the comedy of non-existence takes place.

Festival Gem: Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film | 2014
