Inspired by Louise Bourgeois’s giant spider, Maman, exhibited at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the Playroom team is inviting our young Members to join a visual game designed to familiarize children with the journey of this great sculpture around the world.

How is such a massive sculpture constructed? What is it made from? How can it be transported? As it is, or in pieces? And how is it put together afterwards? Does it fit inside museums, or it must be placed outdoors? How many countries have hosted this giant spider so far? What other impressive artworks has met during its travels? Did Louise Bourgeois follow her spider everywhere? When did Bourgeois make her first spider? Have you seen the spider in any other part of the world? What happened at the Guggenheim Museum?

At this workshop, we will attempt to answer all the above questions, thus acquiring better knowledge on Louise Bourgeois’s well-known art pieces, as well as worldwide museums!

At the end, children will create their own small-scale artwork, to be exhibited at their own impromptu museum, their room or anywhere else they please.
