Ideas are power. They are worth manifesting and spreading. They can enrich our community, nourish our mind, feed the soul, stimulate the spirit. We believe in the power and beauty of ideas that can unfold like colourful yarns in a neighbourhood street, or, from the top of a slide in pursuit of a monumental landing. Because ideas inspire, they make people reflect, engage in a dialogue and they multiply.

These very ideas are the traces | ίχνη that TEDxNicosia has been creating over the past five years. They are our contribution to the local community, the traces which people can look back upon and also look ahead at. Simply put, traces left by footprints are the summation of a journey…

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven in the lives of others” – Pericles

“Every animal leaves traces of what it was; man alone leaves traces of what he created.” – Jacob Bronowski

About TEDxNicosia

TEDxNicosia was born in quest for inspiration and dialogue instigation within our day-to-day lives here in Nicosia, Cyprus. It is the very first TEDx event presented on the island in 2011 as an initiative by our Founder, Marina Theodotou, bringing the TED like experience of ‘ideas worth spreading.’

Ever since our first full-house event themed Dream.Risk.Care.Live!, we were convinced that inspiration does exist and can thrive in Cyprus. The successful continuity of presenting leading thinkers, carried on in 2013 at our second event, RE-Think. RE-Generate.RE-Act, followed by our 2014 event, Perspectives.

TEDxNicosia is a non-profit initiative, organized and operated by a passionate and experienced team of volunteers. Everyone with their own superhero power, from logistics, to operational and supply chain management, to creative design and web development, to communication, film production and finance among others. All share a common drive to make a real impact in the community we live in.

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.

The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
